I’m Amelia, founder of The Helpful Plate. I have been an advocate for good health for more than 30 years.
After the birth of our 2nd daughter in 1995, I joined Weight Watchers to shed the baby weight and my health journey began in earnest. Over the next 2 decades, I learned SO much about good health and nutrition. I lived the ‘no fat 90’s’ and listened to health gurus extol the virtues of low cholesterol, low sodium, Keto, low carb, Mediterranean and a plethora of other eating plans and diets.
I learned that it was up to me to decide what’s best. I learned that experts can’t help me live an exceptional life. That is my job alone.
I have 2 adult children, 2 German Shepherds and a fabulous spouse that I adore. I have spent my career in healthcare and see the effects of poor health every day. With 25+ experience in the healthcare system, I have seen firsthand the importance of healthy lifestyle and nutrition choices. Sadly, younger and younger people are requiring cardio-thoracic bypass surgery. More people are developing Type II diabetes. 1 in 3 adults in the US has high blood pressure.
Outside of work I am an avid cyclist, runner and student of Pilates. I have completed 3 Ironman triathlons. I have spent YEARS studying nutrition for on and off the racecourse.
Our food culture is contributing to the healthcare crisis. This is not sustainable and I want to help.
Please join me on this adventure.
